I love quotes. Many years ago, when I found out that my friend Sue was a fan of them too, I started slipping one to her every Sunday morning. Finding a great quote for Sue felt like a fun weekly treasure hunt.

Now I use them for lettering practice. Many of my recent favorites come from blog posts and books that my friends have written, not necessarily famous people. What a nice reminder that we never know what God will do with the words we put out there. They just might become a favorite quote!

Just as when I wove calligraphy into my quiet time for a while, I’ve found that copying meaningful phrases and taking time to make them into something artistic forces me to slow down and think about the author’s words, and what they say to me. If what I write reminds me of someone I love who would also enjoy it, I take a picture and text it to them. Here are a few that have spoken to me in a special way lately.

One of many wonderful truths I’ve found in Michelle Cushatt’s book, I Am

From the beautifully-written middle-grade memoir, Brown Girl Dreaming

My reminder to live in the present.

I have no idea who said it; I found this in The Art of Whimsical Lettering

These are for tonight!

What is one of your favorite quotes? Here’s a fun challenge for you: if a sentence jumps out at you while reading a book, article, or blog post write it out and take a few minutes to make it pretty. If it reminds you of a friend or family member, send it to them.

  1. Thanks, Jeanette. You are a font of wisdom – or at least the people who wrote these are. Thanks for sharing them.

Yeah, I can’t really take credit for other people’s wisdom, but making their wisdom look pretty sure is fun. I’m glad you enjoyed the quotes!
