When Life Doesn’t Look Like the Picture

Let’s face it; life rarely turns out exactly like the picture we imaged for ourselves. But what about when the picture we had falls off the wall and breaks? Will our kids be okay?

This week I had the honor of writing a guest post for my friend Cheri’s blog Re-Minded Homeschooling, where I share how God helped me find the answer to that question.

How did I get here?

A single mom, living with my parents again, waiting for a divorce to finalize? My young adult son Christian had stayed behind in the city we’d called home for almost fifteen years while ten-year-old Nathan and I returned to the community I’d grown up in, which felt uncomfortably upscale after walking away from our house before it foreclosed, and taking a judge’s advice to file bankruptcy so I wouldn’t drown in my half of a mountain of debt. We’d moved in early November, a year and a half after my husband left me to make it on a pitifully low income, unable to drive due to a visual impairment. I’d proven my ability to handle far more than I ever expected, but now I was exhausted.

And I’d chosen to homeschool for the remainder of the school year?

What in the world was I thinking?
